This product is excellent and serves its purpose. It had caught an attention of many friends to own one for various reasons. I really recommend it to anyone who is looking for a real usable recording device,especially writers, teachers, students and journalists.
5 Stars Great gift option for the college bound student
We purchased the Olympus VN-4100PC Digital voice recorder after much research on the working ability of the product and finding the lowest price at Amazon.com for my daughter as an early Christmas present for college.
She has found this item to be very useful in her lecture classes where she can record them from almost anywhere in the lecture hall and bring them back, download them into the computer and print them out for study notes. According to her this is a grade saving tool which allows her to capture everything being discussed. Since the purchase this recorder has allowed her to get higher grades with little or not much effort because she does not miss a thing. She in in the Radioligic Technology field so you can imagine some of the technical discussion that takes place when she is trying to learn how the human body functions. She did mention that this recorder should not be used on the Extended Play mode if you want to get the best recording or on the Highest mode if there is someone tapping their pencil on the desk as it will pick that up also but would recommend this to anyone who is college bound.

2 Stars Doesn’t work with Vista.
Nice recorder, but they neglect to mention in the website regarding the product that *it doesn’t work with Vista*. So I bought this recorder 3 months ago, and then got a new Vista laptop. Now I have to buy another recorder. I”m not very happy about this, since neither Amazon nor Olympus mentioned this very relevant detail.
1 Star NOT Mac OS Compatible!! Don’t lose your CD-rom or you’ll never be able to use it!!
I have had a bad experience with this product. Well, first of all, it’s not Mac OS compatible, so I was not able to use it at all. I should’ve researched it more, so it’s my bad. However, I gave it to my boyfriend who has a PC, but I could not find the CD-rom that this item came with, so after several days of trying to find this software online (no chance of finding it on the Olympus website..) we both gave up. His computer wouldn’t even see that the device was connected and there was absolutely no way of finding the software to be able to make it work.
It eventually made its way to the trash can.
So, a big fiasco.

5 Stars Unexpected pleasure
I have owned one for a few years and recently bought one for my sister. She was reluctant at first but now would not part with it. It allows her to listen to the TV at her own level of loudness and not disturb the others watching as well as walk anywhere in the house or yard while doing it. She plugs it into her CD player and can work outside or walk around the house for exercise while listening to the wonderful sound quality of these earphones. In fact, it was the quality of the sound which first got her interested in using it. The self charging rack feature is a great improvement. The first one I owned did not have this feature and I later bought a second with it.

The headphones work great and let me not bother my family by playing the TV loud. For the cost they are a bargan compared to other similar products. The range also lets me walk around my house and still hear the TV program.

These are an improvement over the previous version which were powered by AAA batteries: it seemed we had to replace them quite often. In these headphones the charger works very well. It also seems like the signal is stronger, thus the sound is even clearer.
